A Truly Sustainable Product
The New Zealand Ready Mix Concrete Industry generates an estimated 260,000 tonnes of waste concrete annually. That’s enough concrete to build seven Sky Towers.
Stonebloc has partnered with Envirocon to upcycle this concrete into our unique retaining wall system, making Stonebloc New Zealand’s most sustainable building product.
By doing this we’ve diverted over 70,000 tonnes of concrete from landfill. In the process is conserving precious resources, decreasing carbon emissions, and creating sustainable jobs.
Crucially, this process reduces costs, meaning a Stonebloc wall can be up to 33% less then traditional retaining wall options.
Quality is Paramount
- The concrete used to manufacture Stonebloc is exactly the same as that used for buildings and infrastructure.
- Each block has a unique serial number cast into it so you can track concrete used to manufacture that block back to when it was first batched.
- Comprehensive grading on all blocks to ensure uniformity and consistency.
Envirocon Product Stewardship Scheme
Envirocon is a Product Stewardship Scheme accredited by the Minister for the Environment under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008. The Scheme provides a sustainable end of life management solution for ready mix concrete waste. It is the only accredited construction related scheme.
The aim of the Scheme is to eliminate all waste created through the concrete batching process – that is, wet waste ready mix concrete, washout fines, and waste water. The Scheme specifically excludes demolition waste concrete.
Upcycling is a key prinicple of the Envirocon Scheme. Envirocon achieves this by capturing wet concrete and turning it into useable precast concrete products – like Stonebloc. Through upcycling, Envirocon can help create a more sustainable construction industry.
